Can you explain the major changes in capital gains taxation from the Budget 2024? I’m trying to figure out how these updates will impact my investments.

The Budget 2024 introduces several significant changes to capital gains taxation that will impact your investments. Short-term capital gains are now taxed at 20%. Long-term capital gains on both financial and non-financial assets are taxed at 12.5%. Additionally, the exemption limit for long-term gains on financial assets has been increased to ₹1.25 lakh per year, but the indexation benefit has been removed. The 'Angel Tax' has been abolished, and the corporate tax rate for foreign companies has been reduced to 35%. Also, Securities Transaction Tax (STT) rates on options and futures have been increased to 0.1% and 0.02% respectively.
